3 The time to focus on forever

“[Wise King] shall reign for ever and ever.” Exodus 15:18

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the [Wise King], choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the [Wise King].” Joshua 24:15

Uncertain One has had her future’s opportunities set before her, and she now looks at the separate decisions she could make, and why.

We join her the morn following the day of her visitors, and  eventful town trip.

-Uncertain One dreams a terrible dream.-

 In her dream, she had married Pure. A good start! But He had accepted Her to His home, without her loving Him. He was good and kind, yet she…miserable. He, of course, had rules. With complete and true love for Him, she’d have been happy to keep the rules and regulations. After all, they were for her own good. She did try to do things perfectly, but she was not glad. In present state, she was legalistic, but still not doing all things right.  Frustration was always under the surface. She simply couldn’t be perfect!Which Pure knew.

It was her heart problem. She wanted to LEAVE! To leave and be HAPPY! Make her own choices. Since it was not love that bound her, she felt sick. Yes, at Pure’s city, New Jerusalem, all was to be peace and joy. All people, including her should be Happy!

Then, angry, she’d jumped the wall!¹ Which consequently awoke her. For, truly, she had rolled out of bed and stubbed her toe. Which kept her awake for a while. Thinking. Which was good.

She knew Pure would not take her home if she did not agree. So she knew her dream could not come true. Yet, she was glad for that horrid dream. It made her come to terms with her self, and her level of love.

But now it was morning. She smelled apple pie, which was something she loved. Only she was not as pleased as usual. Uncertain One was simply… well… uncertain. She was confused. And, she felt like she had a whole pie, simply plastered to her face. Ugh!

Well, she, (though hardly knowing what she was doing!) got ready for her day. Staring at nothing, she started “doing the motions”. Hairbrush. That’s what I need. I now move it through my hair…done. O.K. Where’s a washcloth for my face?…She made her way to the kitchen once she was finished with her early morning routine.

“Hi, Mom.” Uncertain One said. “Hey, girly! What’s up this fine morning? You don’t look too peppy, hun.” “Aw, Mom!” She exclaimed. “I’m just still confused about Pure, is all.” Her mother again replied: “I know a couple who may be able to help, possibly more than I. I hope you won’t mind, I’ve invited them for breakfast. You ARE boggled, huh?”

“Yes, Mom, I suppose.” “Well, dear”, Blessed Gem continues, “Maybe pie will cheer you up. But I hope, and have been praying, their visit will help you. A whole lot longer than pie!” They both had to laugh.

Uncertain One continued. “Seriously though, Mom!”. Uncertain One smiled, then frowned. “Think they will help? What’s their names again? Or do I already know them? How long have you known them? Have you…” Blessed Gem cut her off. “Whoa there, child! Enough! Of course they will help…if you hear and obey their counsel. I hope you do; they are Pure’s followers, and His voice on earth. ¹

His name is Obedient, and her name is Truthful. You have met them. Both of them came for the Sabbath meal sometime last year. And so, yes, we have known them for years.”

Bring. Ring. Bring. “Oh! That has got to be them now! Please get the dishes for the table, darling. Hurry!”

-During the meal-

“How lovely!” Obedient said, in a deep, kind voice. “I love this apple pie!” Cried Truthful. “Thank-you, both.” Blessed Gem said, smiling. “But please. Proceed to business! Uncertain One is anxious.” She glanced at Uncertain One. “Yes I am, Sir Obedient and Madam Truthful!” Uncertain One chimed in, excitedly. Both of Uncertain One’s parents smiled, glad their daughter was so interested in their company’s wise words.

Obedient, at one end of the table, replied; “Well, you see, Uncertain One, it goes like this: As you know, it IS important to obey rules. But love makes you do this with joy! It’s the order, really. Do you obey because you love, or do you try to love by obeying? Let me give you an example.” He paused.

“Yes, Sir?” Uncertain One was a bit impatient. “Well, as we all know, you help your parents out, and as well, they gives you rules. Do you keep them? Greater yet, do you do it willingly, with joy? Combined, do you help and obey out of love?” Obedient gasped for breath. ¹James 1:22-26.

“Whew! That was quite a large number of questions! But yes, I guess. To all the questions!” Uncertain One replied. She truly loved her dear family. Obedient sat back in His chair.

Truthful, seated beside her husband Obedient, took another slice of pie, and took a bite. “Lovely, Blessed Gem!” She paused, staring at Uncertain One. Then she solemnly replied; “Uncertain One, it can be just like that with Pure. If you obey Him, but yet do not love Him, well…It just would not work. You would not only be legalistic, Pharisaical, and hypocritical, but you would be miserable!”

However, if you obey because you love, the love being the main point, you can scarcely go awry.

“Oh, Obedient, Truthful! I know this to be true!” Uncertain One exclaimed. Excitedly she related her dream from the night before, which still lingered quite vividly.

After hearing the dream related, The couple smiled, knowingly. “You don’t want it to end like that, do you, Uncertain One?” Obedient asked. Uncertain One thought for a moment. “No, Sir Obedient. I guess not. No, ABSOLUTELY NOT. I MUST change!” She looked at the  lovely folks around her, grasping intensely for some hope, or peace.

Blessed Gem says; Darling Uncertain One, that isn’t how it works. You must change, yes, but not by your might or power or will. You must surrender your will and ways to Him.

“It will be a long process.” Truthful was speaking. “But I can see you are willing to learn! Yet I must warn you, Uncertain One. When you have journeyed a way more, and you love Pure with all your heart, beware of another plight. The enemy of our souls seeks whom he may devore any way he possibly can. You mustn’t boast or be haughty because of your achievements, for everything you do is from Pure and Wise King’s power.”¹

Obedient joined in. “Hark! That would spoil you! Think of dear Wishfully Above. I believe she acquired her situation through being a mite proud. Now, she has rather degraded herself, in such aspects as haughtiness, and she is also legalistic, indeed. I feel right-down sorry for her. I’ll visit her next.” ¹Micah 6:8,Jeremiah 9:23,24, Proverbs 15:33

Blessed Gem, entering the conversation again, says: “Obedient, we too know of her. It is sad. For Her, Pure’s name… may she yet turn ’round. Uncertain One, please, learn from her grave mistakes. We must encourage towards the path to freedom. ”

Truthful nodded in agreement. Obedient continued.

“Of course, it will be okay for you to be glad for where you have come. Simply watch yourself to not be prideful, haughty and the like. You may be glad for your completed work. This is fine. And you will be rewarded of Pure. You remember, you get a trophy after a race!” He quoted; “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”^{1 Corinthians 9:24}

Truthful then responded, saying: “Uncertain One, on another topic, you must remember that, concerning rules and laws, you will get mercy from Pure. But not to encourage messing up on purpose!” They all laughed. “He and Wise King will discern whether or not your motives are pure. they see into the depths of your heart clearly. If you don’t mend your ways, justice must follow. Also, Pure is ready and willing to help you obey, but you must allow Him.”^{2 Micah 6:8 Revelation 3:20}

“Along with this, you will need wisdom. His word, and faith in Him, supplies this. But you must also ask for it. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”³ Wise King is all wise!”⁴

Uncertain One thought a moment, then declared;

“I want to embark on this journey with Pure, with you giving me counsel. But, please, what else is in store? What awaits me?” Blessed Gem sighs, knowing her daughter has many a surprise in store. “Uncertain One, my darling child. There is much. Once you have decided to follow Wise King and Pure as your Kings, many things will follow. And not all will be easy, either. And remember to read Pure’s letters”

Truthful nodded. Obedience spoke; “Yes, Uncertain One, I’m afraid it’s not all pleasant, indeed. This trip you are beginning is not blissful.”

Blessed Gem joined in again: “When people find out that you are loyal to Pure (He is NOT popular everywhere) you could very well be betrayed by friends and acquaintances, even harassed needlessly. You may even be killed for Pure’s sake. But, if so, He would raise you up on His pure time-table! He has that power from His Father. Both He and His Father hold this power, and Pure utilizes it when his Father bids. But you must withstand all! One of Pure’s followers states; “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of [Wise King]; that [Wise King] is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.”^{11James 5:11 & 1 Timothy 6:14,15, Revelation 7:14-17 & 19:16} 

“He will watch over you, me, everything that happens, everywhere. He will grieve with you in your troubles (He has known grief), rejoice with you in your happiness, and encourage you when nothing seems to be working.”² Then Blessed Gem, arising, said: “I will be back speedily.”  ²Isa_53:3 Isaiah 53:10 Psalm 71:21

Uncertain One shifted in her seat to face Truthful. “That’s partly why I need to love Him, So as to be willing to live…suffer…and perhaps die for Him, correct?” She winced, still scarcely wanting to think of the consequences, if she did follow Pure’s lead.

“This is true, Uncertain One. Yet, that is not the complete picture. Very true, you must love Him, and be willing to give even your life for Him. But you mustn’t lose sight of this: He first loved you!”

Blessed Gem re-enters, bringing steaming mugs of tea.

“How lovely!” they exclaim in chorus. They chuckle. Uncertain One then continues; “Could y’all please relate to Momma our conversation? I’m Busy. May I please have a straw?”
