We all grew up thinking that no matter how still we were, at any given time we were moving REALLY fast – because earth is! (Or so we thought.)
The following is proved very solidly from the Bible. Yet, there are also science reasons that suggests it as well, which will be added to this post later.

J.C. was a reformer in Europe in Luther’s time, I believe... Correct me if I’m wrong. Now, I don’t think, because you believe the earth moves, you instantly have “the devil” in you! This quote does makes a point though, nonetheless.

You say that this article is solidly proven by the Bible, but I’m not yet convinced that these verses do more than suggest that the earth may be stationary. I’m not just throwing that out here flippantly, either. I know I have a lot more studying to go before I can say I truly understand what these verses are saying, but I have been looking into this subject. Most of the Hebrew words behind the English translations “established” and “shall not be moved” do not necessarily suggest that the earth is stationary; it seems there are a few different ways they can be understood. Furthermore, most of the verses in this article relating to the earth being stationary, if you are paying attention to context, mention the status of the earth indirectly (that is, the intention of the entire passage was not to talk about the earth, per se. Most of the passages were directly talking about Yahweh’s power).
I don’t mean to be argumentative; and I’m not conclusively saying that what you’re trying to put forth in this article is not possible. I’m just not sure that these verses make a strong argument that the earth does not move. I will admit, though, that I can’t really see any other way to take the verses that mention the sun traveling around the earth than exactly what it says (the whole relative motion argument is not entirely convincing to me). I also came across another verse, Habakkuk 3:11, that speak of the sun and moon standing still (as if it were something unnatural) which might actually be helping your case, I don’t know.
Anyway, that’s my penny’s worth. It’s fine with me if you take it or leave it.

Kailey, you made a great point that we should not take these verses as they seem on a surface reading. The translators were working in the 1600’s when the heliocentric theory was relatively new, and there is a possibility that they would impose their geocentric beliefs on their translation of these passages. Thus, checking the original Hebrew is essential. However, upon doing so, I can find nothing that conflicts a stable, non-moving earth. For example, in 1 Chronicles 16:30, the word that is translated as stable is H3559, which means to be erect, that is, to stand perpendicular, to set up, be stable, (e)stablish, and to stand. On the other hand, it can also be entirely figurative, as it could also be translated as confirm, direct, fashion, set forth,prepare, ordain, and several other ways.
Not(H1077) essentially means a failure, and moved (H4131) is to shake, slip, or fall, or to move or be removed. Once again, it is rather vague. My opinion is that it is vague as a matter of principle, or, on purpose. If it was a cut and dried “Thus saith Yahuwah: the earth does not move” or “the earth is a ball flying through space”, there would be no room for faith.

Thank you for your input! I see your point about the Father’s power verses, although the writers still said it for some reason. I will try to make a part 2 soon, with more verses and thoughts.
