Should we be scared about the Coronavirus? It’s spreading, if that’s what you mean. It’s much smaller than the flu so far, if that’s what you mean. We have Yah (God) with us if that’s what you mean. Read on and weigh the scales.
The American Center for Disease Control (CDC) states about COVID-19 that there have been 1,215 cases in the United States, 36 deaths, and that these people live in 43 jurisdictions- 42 states, and the District of Columbia. (Includes both confirmed and presumptive positive cases reported to the CDC since January 21, 2020. That is, with the exception of people repatriated to the USA from Japan, Wuhan, and China. Also, local and state public health departments are making their own tests and reports on cases, so the CDC says that if there seems to be a difference in information from the CDC compared with the local/state departments, the local/state depts. are to be considered more up to date.) Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), originally called Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) according to the NY times, actually started back in 2019. But the first situation report was posted by the WHO on January 21, 2020.
According to the World Health Organization’s(WHO’s) Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Situation Report –52, As of March 12, 2020, there have been 3,173 deaths in China, and 1,440 elsewhere (in multiple countries/territories (117), and on the cruise ship Diamond Princess). For the entire earth, then, this totals 4,613 deaths. Yesterday there had 4292 deaths.
It appears China has it off the worst over all, but that the rest of the world is getting “sicker quicker”; see the Situation Report -52 here. Altogether (In & out of China), there are 125,048 confirmed cases of the virus. This is scary.
According to the CDC, in 2017 the suicide statistics are as follows.;
With 183 countries listed, the United States comes in number 27, according to the “world population review” website. See also W.P.R.’s source, W.H.O. Note: these two links list the USA per 100,00 as 15.3. According to the WHO site, this is apparently from 2016. So, if I am reading that correctly, we’re making progress. 😀
So, we compare (In 2017) over 47,000 deaths in the United States due to suicide, as compared to 4,613 COVID-19 deaths for the entire earth. Perhaps we need to just wash our hands and focus on mental health and family values….
Here is a really good article posted on the CNBC website, written by Jessica Bursztynsky on February 3, 2020; The flu has already killed 10,000 across US as world frets over coronavirus.
An excerpt of the article reads;
“In the U.S., it’s really a fear based on media and this being something new,” Dr. Jennifer Lighter, hospital epidemiologist at NYU Langone Health, said of the new coronavirus. “When in reality, people can take measures to protect themselves against the flu, which is here and prevalent and has already killed 10,000 people.”
The coronavirus outbreak, however, is proving to be more deadly than the flu. It has killed roughly 2% of the people who have contracted it so far, according to world health officials. That compares with a mortality rate of 0.095% for the flu in the U.S., according to CDC estimates for the 2019-2020 flu season. The CDC estimates that 21 million people will eventually get the flu this season.”
Under the “Key Points:” section, the CDC website (link for flu-related page I’m quoting) states that “CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 34 million flu illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations and 20,000 deaths from flu.”
So, there are dangers in the world. Scary viruses, confusing political schemes, sad family situations…you name it. We just need to cast out fear in Yah’s name and live in His love, trusting Him. We need to take precautions and play it safe….but lets not all get OCD either. 😉
